The Chelsea Classical Studio Fat Medium is a safe alternative to turpentine for painting in the ‘fat over lean’ technique. It decreases drying time and increases glossiness. No harsh chemicals are used in production.

Chelsea Classical Studio Fat Medium is a handmade oil medium crafted from a mixture of pure, extra-pale, cold pressed linseed oil and lavender damar varnish. It is glossy, quick-drying, resistant to yellowing and is recommended for later layers of paint and as a glaze.

The linseed oil used is non-toxic, cold-pressed and naturally cleaned. Spike lavender oil essence is a safer natural solvent for oil painting that was used by painters such as Da Vinci, Rubens and Van Dyck as early as the Renaissance. It evaporates as quickly as turpentine, but with its characteristic lavender scent does not cause any acute or chronic health problems such as those associated with turpentine or odourless petroleum spirit. The damar varnish is made with natural damar resin dissolved in spear lavender oil essence.
